About

Curious about the world around you? Ever find yourself saying “I wonder. . .”? Do you ever hear something and wonder if you’ve found out the whole story? Well, if so, then this is the blog for you!

Hi. I’m E.R. Cook. I’m an author, artist and all around dreamer. I mainly write science-fiction and fantasy (with a lot of psychology thrown in), but I started this site because I have always loved history and diving into research. In another lifetime, I could have seen myself as the forever student, or the diligent professor stalking the halls of a dusty library. But I’m not. So, the Modern Wonderer was born.

The Modern Wonderer was created out of my love of researching and knowledge. I love learning at least a little about everything that I can. Not only understanding the true history that has led us to this point, but how things were shaped, named, invented, destroyed. I find that even having a few threads of knowledge can help weave a more interesting, complicated life blanket than just believing blindly what the world tells me. But I like having an outlet for this research, so I wanted to create a blog where I could share the non-fiction side of my writing talents and connect to other Modern Wonderers out there.

Obviously, this blog isn’t going to be an in-depth expose of every topic that I cover. I’m going to get things wrong. I’m going to have an odd source that states something incorrectly. I am not perfect. I’m a blogger. But I will do my best to get the main points across, and critical read my sources to try to bring you the best information I can (i.e. I’ll try to keep the Wikipedia references to a minimum).

Of course, all this is to say that this is just a fun website and is meant for purely entertainment purposes only (insert blanket legal statement that nothing on this site is to be taken as anything other than pure entertainment; I am not an expert on anything, just someone who likes learning). So, please read with a grain of salt and do your own critical thinking and research. Especially because a lot of topics are super-complicated and can change quite rapidly depending on new information or sources by people far more qualified to speak as experts on things.

But all that legal stuff aside, it shouldn’t stop us from having fun.

Learning shouldn’t stop just because we aged out of school. Learning is a life-long passion. Curiosity is not something that’s just for kids. Engage your curiosity and come along for the ride.
